Auf der STATIC X Facebook-Page wurde folgende Meldung veröffentlicht: STATIC X Frontman und Gründer Wayne Richard Wells (WAYNE STATIC) ist am 1. November 2014 mit nur 48 Jahren verstorben. Mehr Details zum Tod von Wayne Static wurden noch nicht veröffentlicht.


"Static-X Founder Wayne Static Passed Away At Age 48 November 1, 2014 - Platinum selling musician Wayne Richard Wells, better known as WAYNE STATIC, passed away at the age of 48. WAYNE STATIC was the enigmatic former frontman and namesake of Static-X, who later forged a successful solo career. Wayne was scheduled to co-headline tours with Powerman 5000 and Drowning Pool over the next several months. No additional information is available at this time."

1994 gründete Wayne Static zusammen mit dem Schlagzeuger Ken Jay die Band Deep Blue Dream. 1995 erfolgte die Umbenennung in Static, ab 1997 war die Gruppe als Static-X aktiv. Am 23. März 1999 erschien das Debütalbum "Wisconsin Death Trip". Das 2001 folgende Album "Machine" konnte bis auf Platz 11 der US-Charts vorstoßen.

Während der "Cannibal Killers"-Tour im Jahr 2007 lernte Wayne Static die Pornodarstellerin Tera Wray kennen. Anfang 2008 gingen die beiden den Bund der Ehe in Las Vegas ein. Sowohl das 2009 erschienene Album "Cult Of Static" als auch die darauf befindliche Single "Stingwray" widmete Wayne Static seiner Ehefrau.

Anfang 2010 gab Wayne Static bekannt, dass Static-X eine längere Pause einlegen würde und der langjährige Bassist Tony Campos die Band verlassen hätte. Während dieser Auszeit arbeitete er alleine an seinem ersten Soloalbum "Pighammer", das am 4. Oktober 2011 in den Handel kam. Die Tour dauerte bis Anfang 2012. Danach hatte Static vor, wieder mit Static-X zu arbeiten. Da allerdings keiner der Band-Kollegen bereit war Static zu helfen ging dieser mit seiner Solo-Band unter dem Bandnamen auf Tour. Nach einem Streit um die Namensrechte mit Tony Campos wurde die Band endgültig aufgelöst.



WAYNE STATIC verstarb am 1.November 2014, die Gründe die zum Tode Wayne Statics führten sind bisher nicht bekannt.

He was a good soul who chose the wrong path. He will be missed."
